Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!
Today in the Liberty Bracket we have the 19th state to join the union, Indiana with the 11th state, New York. New York came close last year. Will they be able to pull it off this year? They have some stiff competion with Kentucky and Ohio advancing to the finals.
I was about to have a fit when I saw Indiana's state bird was the Cardinal! It's a conspiracy, I tell you but New York broke the streak by having the Brook Trout as their state bird.

Let's check the map. (Does anyone else hear Dora Explorer or is it just me?) All I can think of if New York wins is New York City. I'm not sure how much crafty-community blog business we would actually get done with so much to do and see but it would be a fun trip. As for Indiana, where would we go? Indianapolis? Well, heck! Louisville, Kentucky is smack-dab on the border and Kentucky is in the finals! Hmm...

The quiet before the storm...
Happy Friday everyone. Here's where we stand. There will be no voting today. We will resume our semi-final round next Tuesday with voting for one bracket only.
Tuesday will be the Freedom Bracket:
Kentucky will duke it out with yesterdays winner Illinois.
Wednesday will be the Independence Bracket:
Virginia will battle it out with yesterdays winner Ohio.
Thursday will be the Liberty Bracket:
Indiana- state de la Cassie- goes up against New York.
The winners of the above competitions are our winners of each bracket. Taste of USA will be decided on Friday between those three states! Got it? Good!
Now go have a great Memorial Day weekend with your peeps!

Round 3 and Oopsie!
Today will be a little different in the Independence and Liberty Brackets because of two things. 1) Louisiana and Virginia tied on May 15th and the winner of those two is supposed to go up against Alabama. 2) Because someone (me) wasn't paying attention and typed Tennessee instead of Indiana. You would rather go to Tennessee than West Virginia but they weren't even in the same bracket. Yes, that was a heavy sigh you heard.
So today in both the Independence and Liberty Brackets you will be deciding between three states. Make it count.

Peggy and Robin actually read the Monday post and entered a poem for a drawing and Peggy you won! I'm off to Hobby Lobby to find my magical item. I hope it's still there but if it's not there's lots of other magic that I can choose.

Attention all Passengers!!!
All passengers from Utah, Indiana, Mississippi, North Dakota and Arkansas please report to your appointed decks and tell us what makes your state the Taste of USA!
We started our week out in one of my states, Utah where my friends Rich and Ginger said hello. And, our regular, Cassie P. told us about her grandfather live in Utah. Cassie, what city does he live in?
Then we visited Indiana where Heather's husband Bal is from. Heather, I think we are going to be great friends. I was a band geek (but in our small town everyone was a band geek). I played the french horn. Heather also filled us in on the "leaf watch" for spectacular fall foliage. And lastly, Santa Clause, Indiana home to Holiday World Theme Park. Sounds like fun. Cassie added, "GO COLTS!" and told us about Lincoln's boyhood home and the Strawberry Festival in Starlight. What exactly is Huber's again?
How was Jack Johnson, Cassie? Was John Mellencamp there?
We then cruised over to Mississippi where according to Heather, IT'S HOT! Pascagoula! I love the sound of that word.

Welcome to the Cross Roads of America
Welcome to Indiana. Home of the Purdue Boilermakers and the Indiana Hoosiers. Indiana's location provides corridors moving north to south and east to west and giving it the nickname of Cross Roads of America.
I can't think about Indiana without thinking about Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was founded by Carl Fisher in 1906. In 1945 the track was sold to Anton Hulman Jr. and he spent millions improving the facilities. There has been an Indianapolis 500 each year since 1946. Scott Dixon won this years Indianapolis 500 in May. Well, duh. He drives the Target car, of course he's going to win. Hey, he's cute. But Danica Patrick is pretty cute, too. There's a great timeline of women paving the way for future women to race. For all of you that have daughters that may be interested in race car driving, check that out.
I may be totally wrong about this but it seems like everything is centered around Indianapolis. I'm not having a lot of luck finding a bunch of places to visit in Indiana so I need your suggestions! You know I love festivals and this summer has a full line up from the Marshall County Blueberry Festival to the Italian Street Fest to a bunch of different Strawberry festivals and on to the Indy Jazz Fest that looks like a lot of fun! Ooh! And Jack Johnson is playing this Friday at the Verizon Wireless Music Center. I love him.
Other sites you can see are The Children's Museum of Indianapolis where currently they're exhibiting cool super hero's and their artists. Or White River State Park where there are several museums and the zoo all wrapped up in one location. You can get a pass and save money. Check out their website. Or check out the Indianapolis Colts if you're into football. And it sounds like Yats is the place to eat. Cajun food, yum.
