Welcome to the Land of Lincoln

Also known as the heart of America. From the busiest airport to the tallest skyscraper on to the leading producers of corn and soybeans Illinois has it all. Small towns, tranquil farms and big cities. Illinois ranks 5th in population with a lot of that in Chicago. That's the first thing I think of when I think of Illinois.

Chicago. It's a place that has been on my list of places to go for a long time. I hear that is has the best food in the US. And when you go check out the Go Chicago Pass. It includes entry to museums, zoos, tours and a ton of must see when in Chicago attractions. When I'm there I'm going to the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Tour. And I'm going to eat like there's no tomorrow! I'm a huge pizza fan and I hear they have the best! Where do you want to go and where should I go to eat?

Illinois is also known as the Land of Lincoln because of course Abraham Lincoln was from the area though he was born in Kentucky. His family moved to Macon County, Illinois. The Presidential Library is located in Springfield.

I love the website for Illinois. Explore, Discover, Indulge, Play. And then they direct you to a ton of stuff that you can do whether you're a couple looking for a romantic getaway, a family looking to discover some history and play or just the girls going for a wine trip. You can find it all here.

The fun facts for Illinois are the state flower is the violet, the state bird is the cardinal and the state fish is the bluegill.

Okay, now I've only just barely scratched the surface of Illinois. I need your input! Everyone chime in and tell us your Illinois stories.

All you people from Illinois... Illinoisians? Well, y'all meet us on the Prairie Deck this Friday, June 6th and tell us what really makes Illinois the Taste of USA!

Hi - I live in Naperville, a suburb of Chicago, so I feel that I am able to comment today. I agree with everything that has been said. Chicago is a great place to visit and live. Just about everything you want is here - culture, sports, politics, possibly the Olympics in 2016. There are tons of great restaurants from high end like Charlie Trotters and Tru to low end like Chicago hot dogs and deep dish pizza (you can have both mailed to you via www.tasteofchicago.com - Lou Malnati's is the best) Also, during the summer there are hundreds of festivals. Just in my city along we have 3 major festivals, NaperDays, Ribfest, and Last Fling, not counting the smaller activities on other non-major weekends. Of course there's sports - Cub & Sox, hockey, basketball, and football - GO PACKERS - (we don't support the Bears). But most importantly there is Struble Suds. The best gathering place for all things that the man in your life would need. Ask the Beeny family - they know. It's a haven for the men, while the women can go have some fun on their own (child care services provided). Hopefully, this little note has sparked your interest in visiting IL. If you're in the area, write us a note at www.strublesuds.com and we'll be happy to raise a glass with you.

Yes, it is true! Struble Suds is a sight worth seeing! It's the kind of place where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came

If you're going to visit... I recommend doing it during high season... September - Superbowl Suday. Be sure to pack something green and yellow.

Slight corection to the original Illinois post. Wikipedia shows that Iowa produces more corn and soybeans than Illinois. Also, the approriate term for a person from Illinois is...Illini.

You are correct. After checking my source, it says, "One of the leading producers" and not THE leading producer. Great catch.

Illini- is that singular or plural? All Illini join us on the Prairie Deck? Is that correct? Grammar and pronunciation were never a strong subject with me. I hate commas, too!

Thanks for participating!!
