Welcome to the Constitution State

Welcome to Connecticut! Well, if you are reading highlowaha.com you know that July is National Ice Cream Month and that Claudia and Katie just went on their very own Ice Cream Hunt, which Katie documented on Monday. Well, if you live in Connecticut, your hunt is over. Just journey over to Wells Hollow Creamery in Shelton with 44 flavors including Caramel Coffee Toffee, Cotton Candy Twist, Play Dough and Superman! The creamery is located at the family farm- Wells family farm that has more of your planting needs in mind. So, go! Get some flowers for your garden and stop for some ice cream during National Ice Cream Month!

In Hartford, we'll take time to discover The Mark Twain House. This is the home that Samuel Clemens owned as an adult. The home is said to be whimsical and unpredictable with something new to discover in every detail, every nook and cranny. A museum was added to the property in 2003 providing insight into the successes and failures of Samuel Clemens/Mark Twain.

In Norwalk, we'll stop in on The Martime Aquarium where we can feed the Harbor Seals. Or, we can take a cruise with marine science educators and learn about the lives being lived on the shores and deeper of Long Island Sound. And if the aquarium doesn't have enough animal life for you then hop on over to the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport.

I found those attractions on the 50 Great Things to Do in Connecticut list but I want to venture off of the list. There are several festivals and fairs coming up including the Gathering of the Vibes music festival July 31- August 3rd. Or, the Oyster Festival in East Norwalk on September 5-7. Yum! Fresh oysters! Check out the complete list of festivals if you're going to be in the Connecticut area this summer or even fall.

But the one that stood out when I was looking through the list was the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival. First, because I love art. And secondly because... do you remember the movie, Mystic Pizza? I love that movie. And the movie was based on the actual pizza shop called Mystic Pizza. Somebody please tell me the pizza there is delicious! I want to go!

What do you love about Connecticut?

Fun facts for Connecticut are: the state flower is the Mountain Laurel, the state bird is the Robin and the state insect is the Praying Mantis.

All Connecticuters report to the Nutmeg deck on THURSDAY, July 3rd to tell us what makes Connecticut the Taste of USA!
